royal purple or dexron/mercon III?
i have a 1999 mustang with a upgraded T5 transmission with all ford racing internals. at low RPMs i get sort of a syncro clash when shifting. everything was installed correctly but i think its the fluid. i currently have redline fluid in it and im curious if i should switch to either royal purple MTF or regular valvoline dexron III fluid. what do you recommend? im going to replace my fluid regardless
I know you won't believe this, but Valvoline products are all just HYPE, and nothing more. Their products have been tested to show too high an ash content, since they are refined by the wax reduction method. They create sludge and have been shown to break down easier than most. Royal Purple is also a waste of money, because they have absolutely NO recommendations by ANY car manufacturers printed on their label. Even their labels look like they were printed in someone's garage! Mobil One would be the best choice here. Also, perhaps B & M transmission fluid. Amsoil is also an EXCELLENT choice. Transmission fluids are a blend of materials with high detergent contents and are tailor made to have the same coefficient of friction as the original car-maker requires. READ the label of the fluids you are buying and GET SMART. Advertising means nothing at all, in general. The right fluid for you will fulfil the requirements of Ford, and the fluid label will state so!! Wolf's Head also makes an excellent trans fluid. So does Pennzoil. If you don't believe what I am writing here, check out the laboratory tests found on the web! So many products get by with some kind of old reputation that is not really deserved. Good luck!!
