From Revell
Why revell in this environment? Can/will they change? Do they want to? Why?
Street people I mean - hustlers, hookers, gangsters, homeless people, thugs. Most of these types DON'T have to be there but choose. In fact they revel in the grit and dirt of it.
Why do these types of people revel in their environment? I don't get it. We all like a bit of vice but these people revel in it so much. Why? I understand if you're young and see the "glamor" or "allure" of it, or get sucked in from circumstance. But then there's the ones that leave that life and go back.
Is it because you can't teach an old dog new tricks? Can these people really change and become valuable members of society again?
Do they want to?
I think as human beings we all want respect and an acknowledgement for the things we do well.
The people we hang around with are likely to have reasons why their lifestyle is better than someone else's and the longer you hang around a hooker/gangster/hustler, the more likely you are to find someone who will justify it in a way that doesn't seem so bad.
If someone feels they are being validated by a certain lifestyle, they are likely to stay in it simply because they are being judged by a set of rules that favours them or where they can see themselves being favoured in the near future.
There is also the element of these lifestyles attracting certain people to you who will never go away and will most likely damage your chances of living any lifestyle you may choose.
eg. as a prostitute, your pimp will follow you till the ends of your days; as a gangster you probably owe people favours of protection and they need to come and 'collect'...
the examples you mentioned also have an element of fast money attached to them. A lot of people who make money quickly - even if it disappears quickly - think people who wait for a salary are stupid...
Money blurs morality greatly, people tailormake their moralities around what they want.
